Auction | The Alberta Classic
represents a series of young pigeon races, all flown to
the same loft and
timed in with an electronic
"Tauris" timer to prevent any
possibility of bias. Multiple races offer
a better test for these young athletes as the
contribution of luck to their performances is minimized. These young racing pigeons from all parts of Canada call our loft their home and, being housed in the same loft, receive identical treatment. This eliminates as much as possible the effect of different environments on the performance of these young racing pigeons. The young birds' performance is measured in the total time each young competitor requires to fly home from all 4 races. To calculate the results in this manner has the advantage that all birds on the drop are awarded an almost identical report card for the race in question and yet we do not have to judge which bird was in which drop. At The Alberta Classic we like to test these youngsters with longer one day distance races which allows "the cream to rise to the top". Weather conditions on race day may therefore modify the distance these competitors have to fly. In order to equalize the effect different stages of the molt will have on the performance of our warriors, the darkening system will be used in the year 2000. In summary, it is our endeavour to eliminate as much as possible any environmental influences so that the genetic potential can manifest itself. |
